Exeter-based employment lawyer joins Westbank Community Health and Care’s Board of Trustees

The Devon-wide health and wellbeing charity, Westbank Community Health and Care, is delighted to welcome lawyer Henry Cross as its newest Trustee. Henry is a Senior Associate at Michelmores, specialising in employment law.

A father-of-two from Exeter, Henry already had a broad awareness of the charity when he met Westbank’s Head of Carers Services, Andy Hood, at a networking event a few years ago. When he subsequently learnt that Westbank was looking for a law-oriented Trustee to join its Board, he was quick to express his interest in the role.

Brexit Problems for UK Translation Agencies

Britain voted to leave the EU (European Union) through a poll on 23 June 2016. On 29 March 2017, British Prime Minister Theresa May proposed Article 50 of the European Union, leading to what is now recognized worldwide as Brexit.

Called The Lisbon Treaty, it states that an EU member can leave the Union two years after announcing the company. This implies that on March 29, 2019, and no later than the period of April 2019, Britain will be out of the EU.

With the pending exit, more commonly known as Brexit, the translation industry, among other industries, feels the risk of...

The pioneering work of a charity based at a prison in Devon is in the international spotlight after a talk from TEDxExeter was selected to appear on TED.com, the 11th TEDxExeter talk to be featured on the global ideas channel.

In a moving talk at TEDxExeter in April, Alan Crickmore explained how Storybook Dads helps prisoners to keep in touch with their children by enabling them to record stories they can listen to at home – and how this benefits society.

“Every year in the UK, 200,000 children experience the shame and isolation of a parent in prison,” he said. “It can...

Strictly speaking, Exeter Chiefs have waltzed their way impressively to the top two of the Gallagher Premiership this season. Europe, on the other hand, remains a ‘work in progress’ as Rob Baxter’s side slipped to a second successive defeat at the hands of rivals Gloucester.

The visiting Cherry & Whites not only bolstered their own Pool 2 aspirations, but at the same time they gained sweet revenge for a 23-6 loss to Devon’s finest at the same venue just a fortnight ago.

Although they fell behind to an early Don Armand try – and again to Nic White’s converted score just...

Both lanes of the Exeter-bound carriageway between the Texaco garage and Splatford Spilt will be closed from 6pm to 6am each evening from Monday 10 December through to the morning of Friday 14 December. In recent years, the pollution of our oceans has become a major issue. There have been several campaigns that have come to the fore, however 2018 has been the year that saw a real move away from the use of plastic.

This is probably thanks to Sir David Attenborough, who famously used the return of Blue Planet to lament the condition our waters are in. By singling out this very serious issue and placing it in a primetime slot on a show that took a decade to return, the message was loud and clear: it’s time to think about what’s happening to our ocean floors.

While the more...
