Exeter-based employment lawyer joins Westbank Community Health and Care’s Board of Trustees

The Devon-wide health and wellbeing charity, Westbank Community Health and Care, is delighted to welcome lawyer Henry Cross as its newest Trustee. Henry is a Senior Associate at Michelmores, specialising in employment law.

A father-of-two from Exeter, Henry already had a broad awareness of the charity when he met Westbank’s Head of Carers Services, Andy Hood, at a networking event a few years ago. When he subsequently learnt that Westbank was looking for a law-oriented Trustee to join its Board, he was quick to express his interest in the role.

Hall & Woodhouse, the leading independent family-owned Dorset brewer, has raised £114,287 in aid of eight local air ambulance charities in the past year, including Devon Air Ambulance.

At the beginning of 2018, Hall & Woodhouse’s (H&W) team members voted to make the eight Air Ambulances their official charity partners until 2020. Through the partnership, Devon, Dorset and Somerset, Great Western, Hampshire and Isle of Wight, Kent Surrey Sussex, London, Thames Valley and Wiltshire Air Ambulance will receive support from the company.

Historic Nancy Astor statue designer chosen

The installation of a statue commemorating Nancy Astor, the first female MP to sit in the UK Parliament, has moved a step closer after an artist was chosen to sculpt it.

Hayley Gibbs has been announced as designer of the statue by the judging panel for the committee that ran a successful Crowdfunding campaign to raise the required money to commission it.

“I am so honoured and excited to have my design selected for this ground-breaking piece of public art,” she said.

A Devon couple have invented two new seagull deterrents which humanely prevent gulls from landing on roof tops.

The two new products, the Defender® Roof Ridge Bird Spike and the Defender® Chimney Pot Bird Spike, were devised by husband and wife team David and Kursty Jones. The products attach around chimney pots or directly to roof ridges and stop seagulls landing without hurting them.

HRH The Duke of York met with some of the current Met Office apprentices on Monday (18 February), while visiting Exeter to hold a Pitch@Palace On Tour event, an initiative founded by The Duke in 2014.
