Exeter announces its bid to become the UK’s City of Culture in 2029 

Exeter City Council has today announced it will be submitting an expression of interest (EOI) for the prestigious UK City of Culture title. 

The City of Culture bid follows the culmination of five months extensive engagement and consultation with artists, creatives, cultural organisations and residents to shape the council’s commissioned new five-year Cultural Strategy for Exeter.

Following from the success of the “Eat Out to Help Out” scheme, Exeter office company Offices.co.uk is asking the Government to give free lunches to all office workers to encourage them to return to work with the “Lunch is on us” Campaign.

“Exeter is struggling; cafes and sandwich shops empty, trains and buses underused – we want the Government to incentivise their use by providing lunch and travel vouchers. Barratt West Regional director welcomes Help to Buy extension

Barratt Developments' new west regional director has welcomed the government's announcement of an extension to the Help to Buy Scheme , which helped more than 5000 households in the South West buy a new home in the year to March 2020.

Research is underway to understand how effective SMEs in the South West have been at using technology during the pandemic.

Exeter-based IT and support company, Timewade are running an online survey to understand successes and challenges, to feed back to the business community.

Already, some of the initial findings are providing invaluable insight, with just 16% saying their technology was fully prepared for the Covid-19 pandemic. Those taking the survey, which runs through the summer, will be the first to receive the full findings.

Devon County Council has welcomed the Government’s investment into schemes to help kickstart the economy.

The Getting Building Fund will provide the support to fast-track a number of schemes in the county to be delivered by January 2022.

The Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership has been allocated £35.4 million – the biggest share in the region – from the £900 million national fund, which is part of the Government’s response to the economic impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown.
