A group of 10 Devon businesses have been awarded funding to help them reach new audiences.

The latest round of Devon County Council’s Business Promotion Grant has been announced – providing up to £1,000 to cover exhibiting costs of attending trade shows or events.

The grant scheme, which is organised through the County Council’s Devon Delivers programme, aims to enable businesses to gain valuable exposure at high-profile industry events across the country, promoting them to national and international audiences.

Exeter Cathedral has announced the return of its popular team quiz night. Comedian and author Tony Hawks has once again agreed to host the event, which takes place on Thursday 13th October 2016 in the medieval Nave of the Cathedral. Eleven lucky Year 11 and Sixth Form pupils and three staff from Exeter School were offered the opportunity to see first-hand two lovingly restored Spitfires at Exeter Airport and experience the pilot's view from the cockpit.

They watched the Boultbee Flight Academy two seat Spitfire SM520 take off and land, piloted by past pupil Matt Jones (1987-1992), and were able to study closely the single seat Spitfire RR232 aptly named 'City of Exeter' built from a single rivet by Exeter based 'Tool Care Hire' owner Martin Philips.

A leading Devon law firm has seen the number of its lawyers recognised by Legal 500, an independent guide to the legal profession, increase by six. Eighteen of the firm’s teams were also ranked, with three receiving Tier 1 status in Legal 500’s 2016 guide, which has just been announced. Stephens Scown LLP now has 22 lawyers from its Exeter office recommended by the guide. The lawyers who were highlighted for the first time include Toby Claridge (pictured), partner in the firm’s dispute resolution team.
