In Part One of the Exeter Chiefs/Gloucester trilogy, it was Rob Baxter's table-toppers that landed the first telling blow.

Devon's finest made it 'eight from eight' in this season's Gallagher Premiership with a display that showed glimpes of sheer brilliance in attack but, more importantly, real determination and desire in defence.

Despite falling behind to two early penalties from Gloucester fly-half Danny Cipriani, the Chiefs recovered sufficiently to lead 10-6 at the break thanks to a converted try from Nic White and a penalty from Gareth Steenson.

Colchester 1 Exeter 1

Jayden Stockley scored his 11th goal of the season as Exeter City battled back from a goal down to earn a hard-fought points away at promotion rivals Colchester United.

Colchester had taken the lead when Sammie Szmodics hit a volley into the bottom corner with 67 minutes on the clock, but the Grecians responded superbly as Stockley fired home from close-range following a goalmouth scramble two minutes later.

City manager Matt Taylor named an unchanged team from the side that performed well in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Northampton Town, while Colchester United...

City 2 Northampton Town 2

A devastating last-minute Northampton equaliser saw Ex City held to a draw against the Cobblers at St James Park.

City took the lead through captain Jake Taylo, who netted his first of the season, before Billy Waters levelled for the away side.

Jayden Stockley then struck late in the first half to give City a 2-1 lead, but City were pegged back once again on 90 minutes when a Northampton corner seemed to come off a City player and end up in the back of the net meaning the points were shared.

Grecians boss Matt Taylor made four changes to the side that was eliminated...

Topsham Town FC has kicked off the new season in style thanks to a donation from a national housebuilder.

The first team, which plays in the Devon and Exeter Premier League, is predominantly funded through memberships and was keen to purchase a new home kit, as the old one was starting to show noticeable signs of wear and tear.

City 2 Bristol Rovers 0

Joel Randall scored his first senior goal for Exeter City as they beat Bristol Rovers 2-0 to top their Checkatrade.com Trophy group.

The Grecians went into the final game of the group knowing they had already qualified for the knockout stages, but also that only a win against Bristol Rovers in 90 minutes would be good enough to top the table.

And they rose to the challenge as Jonathan Forte flicked home Chiedozie Ogbene's low cross shortly into the second half before Randall added his strike eight minutes' from time.

Both teams named youthful sides for the game,...
