Exeter City Council Chief Executive announces retirement

Exeter City Council Chief Executive and Growth Director Karime Hassan has announced he is stepping down from the Council at the end of March.

The Council’s current Deputy Chief Executive Bindu Arjoon will become Interim Chief Executive from April 1 pending the outcome of work that the Council is doing with the Local Government Association in the New Year.

Karime, 60, has overseen a huge growth in the economy during the last decade and overseen expansion which has seen Exeter become an economic powerhouse and an internationally recognised city of culture.

The National Trust Estate at Killerton has joined forces with Devon Carers this Christmas by inviting the charity’s Peer Support Craft Group to decorate one of the trees inside the house.

Two carol concerts by Exeter Philharmonic Choir have raised almost three thousand pounds for local charity Dream-A-Way, which helps make holiday dreams come true for Devon children and adults with disabilities or life-affecting health conditions.

Stagecoach offers single bus fares for £2 as part of national initiative

Stagecoach customers in England are set to benefit from three months of bus fares for no more than £2 for a single journey as part of the Department for Transport’s new fares initiative, through the Government’s Help for Households campaign.

The Venus Company with a turnover of £2 – 3 m announces its planning application for ambitious plans to revamp the Broadsands Venus beach cafe in Paignton has been approved by Torbay Council. Stagecoach South West have announced today that following a review of supported bus services by Plymouth City Council, there are a number of changes to our Plymouth bus network. Stagecoach will be introducing three new services in partnership with Plymouth City Council.

Many locals across East and South Devon will remember with affection, the former local radio station DevonAir Radio, which closed in 1994.

28 years on, the DevonAir name is due to take to the airwaves once more, in the form of DevonAiR Gold.

The station will launch on the new small scale DAB+ digital radio service in Exeter at 1pm on Saturday 31st December, and is currently running test transmissions.
