Occupier demand has moderated in the retail segment of the South West commercial property market, but conditions in the industrial and office sectors remain firm, according to the Q2 2017 RICS UK Commercial Property Market Survey.
South West occupier demand strengthened during Q2, following only modest increases in each of the last two quarters with 16% of respondents reporting an increase. Sector breakdown shows flat demand for retail space, offset by reasonable growth (net balance of +26%) in demand for industrial property.

Devon County Council is disappointed to have to confirm that the proposed Bridge Road opening date, for the week commencing Monday 31 July, will not be met.
This further inconvenience on one of Exeter’s busiest road is regrettable, but the contractor has a full-time seven days a week presence on site. Complex structural engineering work is continuing in areas under the Swing Bridge and on the outside of Countess Wear Bridge, where the most technically challenging part of the scheme is taking place on the cantilevered pedestrian and cycle bridge, but this activity may not be...
Dartmoor Rangers are calling for caring individuals to join them on a series of #2 minute litter picks at heavily visited sites in the National Park during August.
The summer months bring crowds of people to enjoy the wonderful Dartmoor scenery but amongst these visitors are individuals who treat this protected landscape like a rubbish tip, leaving food waste, disposable barbecues, bottles and cans behind when they leave. At Newbridge recently 32 black bags of rubbish were collected after one sunny Sunday, despite Rangers patrolling the site at its busiest, issuing black bags to...

Local police officers are out and about near Exeter this week to check that vehicles have safe and legal tyres fitted.
The maximum penalty for driving with defective tyres is three penalty points and a £2,500 fine…and that’s per tyre.
More importantly, defective tyres pose a danger to the driver and to other road users.
PC William Welch said: “The condition of tyres and vehicle handling go hand in hand. Tyres are the only points of contact between a vehicle and the road, and so affect braking, steering and grip.
Exmouth will have a new temporary landmark on its horizon by the end of this week – a 28 metre high observation wheel with 20, six-seater gondolas which will offer a unique viewpoint over Exmouth, the Exe Estuary and out to sea.
The wheel is located on East Devon District Council land at Beach Gardens opposite the Pavilion Theatre and is operated by Somerset-based MI-Wheel. It opens for rides on Saturday 29 July. It will be on site for 28 days and the wheel operators are seeking planning permission for a further two week extension to mid-September.
