Highways teams dealing with Storm Ciara aftermath

Devon County Council’s highways teams are continuing to work around the clock to deal with the aftermath of Storm Ciara.

The county was battered throughout yesterday (Sunday 9 February), with winds speeds reaching around 75mph, causing numerous trees to come down.

Extra highways crews turned out to deal with reports of more than 60 fallen trees and branches across the county. These included trees at:

- Four Oaks Road at Tedburn St Mary, - Old Dawlish Road at Kennford, - Goldsmith Lane in Axminster, - Chambercombe Lane in Ilfracombe, - A361 North Devon Link...

Walking and cycling programme in Devon awarded Government grant

Walking and cycling schemes in Devon have received a half-million pound boost, thanks to a funding announcement today (Friday 7 February).

The £500,000 grant from the Department for Transport will extend Devon County Council’s Access Fund Programme for a fourth year.

The programme aims to increase the proportion of walking and cycling trips to workplaces, schools or colleges in Exeter, Barnstaple and Newton Abbot. A first-time London Marathon competitor is running so that her young children will be able to see wildlife when they grow up.

Franziska Bullimore has entered the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon on behalf of conservation charity Paignton Zoo. Tech firms in the South West are predicting a strong year of growth in 2020, according to the findings of the annual Tech South West survey.

Tech organisations from Bath, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Somerset took part in the survey.

Paignton Zoo in Devon has hatched three very special – and very beautiful - youngsters. Keepers are hand rearing a trio of Chinese crocodile lizards. In 2018, Paignton Zoo became the first major zoological collection in the UK to breed this species.
