Exceptional year for Stephens Scown

One of Devon and Cornwall’s leading law firms has revealed its year end figures, showing strong growth to top off an exceptional year for the firm, which saw it named among the 100 best mid sized companies in the UK to work for by the Sunday Times.

Stephens Scown LLP, which has offices in Exeter, Truro and St Austell, experienced growth of 13%, taking its income to £15.065 million in the year ended April 2015. This builds on growth of 12% in the previous financial year.

Food Festival lunch a hit with Exeter Chamber members

Over 110 people attended the April networking lunch which was held at the Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink. Results are now in of the Exeter BID Company Board Ballot to select three new Board members in the City Centre.

Jon-Paul Hedge, editor of the Express and Echo will represent Gandy Street, Harlequins & Queen Street, James Clark, store manager of Marks & Spencer will represent the Guildhall & Lower High Street and Stephen Auty manager of Specsavers will represent High Street North/West and Castle Street).

An Exeter-based independent retailer has opened a new furnishings store called ‘CASA’ located opposite Topsham’s quay area, formerly known as ‘Brights of Nettlebed’.

SMEs have poor green credentials

One in five (21 per cent) SMEs in the South West say they do not understand the commercial benefits of being environmentally responsible according to a new study from Lloyds Bank.

One in ten (8 per cent) admit that they are not doing enough to make their businesses environmentally responsible.

Despite this, a third (35 per cent) of small businesses say better environmental practices are a top three priority for 2015.
