Exeter jobs at risk as BHS files for administration

Staff at BHS in Exeter face a worrying future after the company confirmed it has filed for administration.

A total of 11,000 jobs are at risk across the retailer’s 164 stores.

BHS will continue to trade while the administrators, Duff & Phelps, try to find a buyer for part or all of the business.

It is understood any buyer would would have to take on take on its £571m pension deficit.

Last year, BHS was sold by the retail entrepreneur Sir Philip Green for £1. He had bought the chain for £200m in 2000.

SW construction market bucks national slowdown trend

The latest survey by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has revealed that growth in the construction market has remained positive in the South West over the last three months. Private housing workloads showed the greatest increase with 48% more of those working in the sector reporting a rise in activity rather than a fall over the first quarter of 2016. Britain’s fastest growing supermarket, Lidl UK, has revealed plans to open its 12th Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) in East Devon, following the submission of a planning application to build the 50,000 m² warehouse on a site at Clyst Honiton. The submission of the application follows the purchase of the site in February of this year, and will pave the way for up to 500 new jobs for the area.
