Exeter kids’ charity shop plans fun packed day for grand reopening!

Jelly, a charity shop in Exeter selling low-cost, preloved children’s clothes, toys and books, is currently undergoing a four-week refurbishment.

The shop, which first opened its doors in 2015, will celebrate its grand reopening on 19 August. Plans for the fun packed day include: selfies with a real Jelly Teddy, cupcakes, goodie bags for the first 50 customers and a giant raffle with prizes ranging from craft kits to a children’s bike.

Part of local charity, Exeter Community Initiatives, Jelly is located in Fore Street and is run by paid staff and a team of volunteers....

Devon Air Ambulance is celebrating 30 years of service this year, and supporters are signing up to undertake a ‘virtual’ tour of beautiful Devon to uncover a little of the charity's history – and future - through storytelling milestones.

Between 1 August and 30 September 2022, supporters are undertaking the ‘Devon Air Amble’ simply by adding their normal daily steps to a route-tracking app.

The aim is to accumulate enough steps to make their way around the 165-mile route across Devon – that's an average of around 3 miles a day.

Participants across the country are being invited to sign up to the Leukaemia Care Step Out Challenge for Spot Leukaemia, which launches this September.

The aim is to move as far as you can between 1st and 30th September and raise as much as you can - there’s no minimum limit. To take part you can walk, run, cycle or run and set whatever distance you want to. Once signed up, all you need to do is ask friends and family to sponsor whatever they can.

Charity litter pickers at major Plymouth festival receive over £7,500 from DCW

Charity litter pickers who volunteered to keep the Plymouth Hoe tidy during and after the 1 Big Summer music festival have received over £7,500 from DCW for their efforts.

Independent South West-based waste management firm, DCW, was contracted to provide waste management services for the three-day event which welcomed up to 15,000 ticket holders each day. In addition to its own staff, DCW invited local litter picker groups and charities to fundraise whilst they litter picked against the backdrop of live music and a buzzing atmosphere.

Alliance Healthcare teams cycle more than 1,000km across the UK with a starting line from Exeter to raise more than £40,000 for charity

During the sweltering heat, and blistering northern winds, two teams of cyclists completed Alliance Healthcare’s annual charity Tour D’Alliance cycle challenge. The search begins for Devon’s Best Young Landscape Artist 2022

Young artists aged 18 and under can now compete for the title of Devon’s Best Young Landscape Artist 2022. Devon CPRE, a South West branch of the countryside charity CPRE, held the competition for the first time last year and was impressed with the quality and quantity of entries from across the county.

The charity is inviting budding young artists to showcase their creativity by capturing Devon’s unique and precious landscapes in the medium of their choice. There are two entry categories - one for teenagers and one for younger children - with cash prizes for the winners....

The Co-operative Bank has given £200 to Kenyan Educational Sponsorship community group which is dedicated to helping young people in Kenya achieve their academic potential, enabling them to realise their ambitions and make the most of their lives. They are currently sponsoring three bright but extremely poor students Marcy, Alfred and Vivian.

The Bowling Green raises £5,000 for Devon Air Ambulance Trust with a ‘Big Shave’

The Bowling Green , Exeter has raised around £5,000 for Devon Air Ambulance Trust through a ‘Big Shave; event. The pub is still accepting donations made in person at the pub and online through a JustGiving site.

The licensees, Nigel Cook and Saskia Russell were joined by Mike Knight, who lives in the area, and they all shaved their heads. Nigel also dyed his beard pink at the request of one of the guests to help raise further funds.
