Chiefs lose by just one point in match against Saints

Exeter Chiefs 16 Northampton Saints 17

A bit like the battering the Westcountry has faced all week, it was only a matter of time before the defences of the Exeter Chiefs were finally breached.

With two minutes remaining at Sandy Park, Northampton Saints centre George Pisi crashed over for a crucial try – converted by Stephen Myler – to send the East Midlanders back to the summit of the Aviva Premiership.

Pisi’s late intervention brought yet more heartache for Devon’s finest as yet again they failed to finish off rivals ahead of them in the current standings....

The Warriors, winless in the Aviva Premiership all season, were second best in every facet of the game and...

Retired professionals and business leaders mingled with stars of the future to hammer home the message that playing is not a career for life. The event was staged at luxury kitchen and bathroom showroom Sapphire Living Space, opposite Darts Farm, and organised by the Rugby Players' Association. Guests were served drinks and canapés and heard experienced players talk about the challenges of preparing for life in civvy street. Among them was former Exeter Chief's lock Chris Bentley,...

Welsh international Craig Mitchell is to leave Exeter Chiefs at the end of the season to take up a contract with Rabo Pro 12 side Cardiff Blues.

The 27-year-old prop will move to the Arms Park on a three-year deal, bringing to an end a similar spell with the Devon club.

Signed by head coach Rob Baxter during the summer of 2011 from the Ospreys, Mitchell enjoyed a promising first season in Devon as he helped the club secure a fifth place finish in the Aviva Premiership.

Sadly the last two years at Sandy Park have not gone quite as smoothly for the talented tight-head...

Cardiff Blues 13 Exeter Chiefs 19

Exeter Chiefs will no doubt have more memorable away days in Europe, but for now they will toast this latest victory with a glowing sense of satisfaction.

Having kicked off their Heineken Cup campaign with victory over Cardiff Blues, they ended this latest instalment with a similar outcome against the proud Welsh region.

Don Armand’s first half try, together with 14 points from the boot of skipper Gareth Steenson, not only gave the Chiefs the perfect send off in what could be their final outing in the Heineken Cup in its present...

Having been given his first-ever taste of Heineken Cup action last weekend, Luke Cowan-Dickie is hoping for more European exposure on Saturday when the Exeter Chiefs tackle Cardiff Blues at the Arms Park (3.40pm).

The young Cornishman featured for just over an hour during the narrow 15-10 defeat against visiting Glasgow Warriors and impressed many with his on-field display.

Back on the pitch following a season which has been hampered by a knee injury sustained in the pre-season friendly at Scarlets back in August, the talented 20-year-old says he is clearly keen to make up...
