Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, was honoured by the Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor, at a Reception at the historic Exeter Guildhall on Friday the 24th November.

The Reception marked the 70th anniversary of the charity since it first opened its doors to the people of the City in 1947 when it dealt with issues ranging from war-related questions, to housing and employment. Freemasons Donate £600,000 to support hospices

Freemasons Donate £600,000 to Support Hospices Incredible Contribution to the Community.

Seven Hospices within Devon have been chosen to receive a grant totalling nearly £10,000 from the Devonshire Freemasons. This grant comes through the Masonic Charitable Foundation and will be used to enable the hospices to continue their fantastic work.

The amounts donated to each hospice will be:-

  • Children’s Hospice SW (Little Bridge House Barnstaple) £1,083

Charity celebrates success with fundraising ball

GLITZ and glamour were the order of the day, when local charity, Hollywell Housing Trust, celebrated their third birthday and thanked their supporters by throwing a festive fundraising ball.

The ball, held at Rockbeare Manor, just outside Exeter, came at the end of what has been a mammoth year for the Trust, which finds homes for vulnerable adults with learning disabilities and autism, in privately rented accommodation throughout Devon and Cornwall. Specials join forces for police operation at busy Exeter level crossing

Special police officers from British Transport Police and Devon and Cornwall Police joined forces for a level crossing and driving offences operation at Exeter St David’s railway station on Friday (8 December).

The operation was entirely planned and organised by Special Constables from both British Transport Police and Devon and Cornwall Police, who support their community by volunteering.

They worked alongside officers from the Devon and Cornwall Polie and Dorset Police Alliance Roads Policing Team.

Literature Works is delighted to announce the line-up for the first ‘Word on Tour’ event, kicking off a 26-venue live literature tour of local libraries in the South West.

On 10th January, Bideford Library will host acclaimed novelist Jane Feaver and folk singer and song-writer Jim Causley.

National Youth Film Academy is coming to Exeter

The National Youth Film Academy (NYFA) is coming to the South West on the lookout for the best up and coming young actors and filmmakers.

The NYFA offers 10 day Introductory Courses at Easter and during the Summer for young people aged 16-25 who want to break into the film industry.

Across the two weeks they are given the opportunity to develop and produce their own short film, which is then showcased to friends and family at a local picturehouse.
