Exercise could delay progression of Type 1 diabetes when first diagnosed

Innovative new research has suggested that physical activity around the time people are diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes could have long-term health benefits, improve blood glucose levels, reduce hypos and reduce the risk of complications, such as retinopathy and neuropathy.

It is believed that around 60 per cent of adults newly diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes experience a ‘honeymoon’ period. This means the beta cells in their pancreas are still working and their body is still sensitive to insulin, which means they don’t need much of it.

Appeal after eight injured in East Devon collision

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision on the A35 near Axminster at the weekend which left eight people injured.

Emergency services were called at 6.30pm on Sunday [11 March] following the collision between a blue Peugeot 207 and a blue Ford S-Max just east of Abbey Gate Farm.

Eight people, including three children, from the two cars sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The A35 was closed in both directions at Axminster and re-opened at 9.55pm.

Police are investigating the collision and asking for any witnesses to contact them...

Families get behind Exeter Deaf Academy in Devon’s first Monster Race

Exeter Deaf Academy, one of the official charity partners for the Monster Race, are delighted to have families tackling the muddy challenge this weekend, raising funds that will make a real difference to young deaf lives.

On Saturday 17th March 12-year-old Deaf Academy student Sam Harris will take on the 5km Monster Race at Escot Park near Exeter, with his dad and cousin as part of the Academy’s Monster Team.

St Martins School pupils plant a ‘Great Tree’

Cranbrook’s St Martin’s Primary School pupils have planted a Monterey Pine at the school to mark the start of their involvement in the Great Trees in the Clyst Valley project.

A gift from Clyst Honiton (site of the old school), the Pine was planted by students and East Devon District Council's environment portfolio holder, Cllr Tom Wright, who said:
