Builders merchants’ CEO uses prison cell to raise over £2,700 for children’s hospice!

For his crimes against dancing, the CEO of RGB Building Supplies was thrown into Exeter Castle’s prison on Friday 21st September as part of Children’s Hospice South West’s Jail & Bail fundraising initiative.

Kevin Fenlon’s bail was initially set at £999 and it was then down to him to invite friends, family, colleagues and RGB customers to donate to the worthy cause so he could be released. However, due to the seriousness of his dancing crimes, Kevin’s bail was increased to £1,500 – but it seems his supporters were keen to set him free and helped raise a fantastic £2,738....

Exeter street sweeper honoured

A street sweeper who went to the aid of an elderly lady, who had fallen over in Exeter city centre, has won an award. Matt Campbell who is part of Exeter City Council’s city centre team was recognised at Exeter Tidy Group’s Ambassador of the Year Awards. The Awards recognise the people - street sweepers and grounds maintenance staff - who keep Exeter looking good. Exeter Racecourse resumes action next Tuesday with the return of racing to Haldon Hill.

Storm Callum brought much-needed rain to the Devon track and with an unsettled forecast in the lead up to the meeting it’s all systems go on Haldon Hill.

Devon’s doctors are urging patients to use the NHS 111 system for health advice through the winter months as hospitals become increasingly busy.

The free to call service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and can provide patients with advice on any urgent issues that they may be facing.

The service is staffed by a team of fully trained medical advisers who are assisted by nurses and paramedics.

A fundraising evening organised by Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes has raised more than £10,000 for The Exeter Foundation charity, with money raised going towards helping a range of charities and groups across the region.

Hospiscare celebrates the theme of Hospice Care Week 2018, Heart My Hospice, by welcoming its third group of Heart2Heart participants at Searle House this October.
