Perfectly mixed up – Devon’s young care leavers to stage a play in Texas

Drama has become a regular activity for Exeter’s young people in care who have joined forces with students from the University of Exeter to stage a play in Austin, Texas. Stetsons and cowboy boots are at the ready as Exeter’s creative gang of performers head to the United States. This life-changing experience will be the first time that the theatre company ‘Perfectly Mixed Up’ travel and perform outside of Devon. Throughout the week-long stay the company will perform their show, More than the Sum and run two workshops with young people in care in Austin, Texas.

South Devon Link Road Project Team construct haul road

Devon County Council and Torbay Council have announced that work will soon begin on a haul road at the South Devon Link Road site.

Contractor Galliford Try will be constructing the temporary haul road from the bottom of Hamelin Way towards Kingskerswell, to allow site vehicles to access culverts at the south end of the new road. This construction is due to commence in April.

Connecting Devon and Somerset has marked the beginning of the detailed survey phase of the fibre optic broadband roll-out with a launch event for key stakeholders, including highway and traffic management officers, planners and power companies. Portable Athletics Track to launch at Princesshay in Exeter

South West Athletics Academy is pleased to announce the launch of its new portable athletics track surface. To celebrate the launch, a sprint challenge is being held at Exeter’s Princesshay on Saturday 30 March from 10am – 5pm, with all welcome to come and try out the new surface.

Nando’s Exeter supports the WESC Foundation with Princesshay

On Wednesday 13 March, an enthusiastic team from Nando’s Exeter were treated to a tour of the WESC Foundation campus and facilities and the chance to meet some of the inspirational students. Nando’s staff were keen to find out more about Princesshay’s official charity of 2013 and support with activity in their restaurant as well as giving time through volunteering.

The Nando’s Exeter team arrived laden with balloons and tons of energy, together with a selection of Peri-Peri sauces for the children and young people to use in their next cooking classes.

Aspect Windows’ cakes raise £321 for Comic Relief

Aspect Windows has raised £321 for Comic Relief with its hugely successful cake sale on Friday 15 March. Staff sold homemade cakes and biscuits to their colleagues, customers and other local businesses on the Trade City estate.

The company joined property guru Kirstie Allsopp in the Twitter Million campaign, a challenge on the social networking site to raise £1 million for the charity, and had hoped to raise £100.

Young Devon film makers shortlisted for award

Young people from Devon will be heading to London this week to find out if their film has won the best drama category at the British Film Institute's First Light Awards.

‘The Woodland’, the short film made by young people from Newton Abbot and Dartington, follows a young girl who wanders into woodland alone. Following the sounds of voices she falls into a hole, momentarily becoming the size of a beetle, while learning about the woodland and herself from this new perspective.
