Exeter Chiefs' Ewers set for the challenge ahead

Dave Ewers believes the final three games of this season’s Aviva Premiership represent a “massive challenge” to the Exeter Chiefs as they look to seal a place amongst the division’s top six sides. With important clashes against London Irish (home), London Wasps (away) and Gloucester (home) remaining for the Devon club, Ewers knows the battle for Heineken Cup qualification next season is set to go to right to the wire. However, buoyed by Saturday’s late 24-18 victory over Worcester Warriors at Sixways, Rob Baxter’s side have certainly positioned themselves nicely for the top flight’s final...

Scrap Trident Meeting with Bruce Kent

Authored by Exeter CND
Posted: Wed, 04/03/2013 - 10:44am

When Exeter CND arranged this public meeting, at which Bruce Kent will speak, we invited Devon's MPs to come and debate with him. Unfortunately none could make it so we asked the main local political parties to send representatives to the debate. After all, the three main parties all officially support Britain's nuclear weapons programme, i.e Trident or some variant.

Unlike the MPs none of the parties has responded, not even to refuse to debate with us. As suuport for Trident is now a minority viewpoint in the UK one might expect that those who consider the system to be...

Marsh Barton Security Services celebrates 30 years of trading

Marsh Barton Security Services celebrates 30 years of trading next month and new owner Marcus Di-Vincenzo takes stock of how far security has actually come from when it was first required back in the middle ages.

Until the 1980s, the term Watchmen was more commonly applied to the function known as security, a usage dating back to at least 1233 when the Ordinance applied the need for such a service. This term was carried over to North America where it was interchangeable with night-watchman until both terms were replaced with the modern security-based titles. Security guards are...

Paignton Zoo in Devon has built a zip-line for its tigers.

Keepers at the park – a registered charity – have devised the thrill ride with help from woodland adventure company Treesurfers.

In fact, it is the big cats’ lunch that will ride the zip-line – all the tigers have to do is catch it.

Senior Head Keeper of Mammals Matthew Webb explained: “We have used things such as hanging bags in the past to encourage them to get a bit more physical. Now we have the zip line, down which we can send meat for the tigers to chase and jump at.

“We have also erected a...
