Devon Wildlife Trust event: Bee Aware

We're all familiar with the common bee, right? But there's more than meets the eye to these small insects. Led by beekeeper Ann Pengelly and naturalist Marjorie Waters; come and explore the importance, needs and life cycles of honey bees, bumble bees and solitary bees. Try to identify as many as possible in the orchard, community woodland orchard, and the garden which will be shortly followed by cream tea.

Suggested donation £6 to include tea. Please book by 4 July and meet at grid reference SY 263910. Part of DWT’s Bumblebee Campaign to help the bees keep on buzzing.

The Joy of The Exe

An informal evening 'Exe-pedition’ (pun intended) River Exe and canal, exploring wildlife between the DWT Headquarters at Cricklepit Mill to the amazing wetland at the Old Sludge Beds DWT nature reserve further down the river.

The whole round trip is six miles long so please bring torches and bat detectors for the dusk return leg and binoculars if you have them.

New footbridge for Dawlish’s Manor Gardens

Residents and visitors to Dawlish are benefiting from a new footbridge built by a team of engineers, designers and surveyors from Teignbridge District Council.

The new 10-metre timber bridge, which passes over Dawlish Water to link to Manor Gardens, replaces a dilapidated and unsafe bridge which was closed 12 months ago because rotting timbers and corroded steel beam supports meant it was too dangerous to keep open.

Dawlish Town Council and Teignbridge have been working together to solve the problem and provide a new much-needed link.

This July, Northern, Eastern and Western Devon Clinical Commissioning Group is holding another health summit in Exeter for people to have their say on the future of healthcare services in the city and surrounding area.

Beach Rescue Club is handed keys to new hut

Exmouth Beach Rescue Club were officially handed the keys to their new lifeguard hut at Orcombe Point at the weekend.

On Sunday Councillor Tom Wright, EDDC’s Deputy Portfolio Holder for the Environment, handed over one of the former Council Lifeguard huts for the club to use during the summer season at Orcombe Point. The club has had to put quite a bit of work into making the hut usable again as it has been standing idle for several years.

Despite the work required to get it up to scratch, the Beach Rescue Club will find that the hut fulfils a very important role for them....
