Race for Life turns passion into progress

Nearly 4,000 women united at Westpoint Arena in Exeter yesterday with one mission in mind – to conquer cancer.

Together they have raised just under £220,000.

Now Cancer Research UK is calling on Exeter’s formidable army of mighty-mums, gutsy-grans, feisty friends and go-getting girls to make every step count by paying in their sponsorship money as soon as possible.

Year 4 students from South Tawton School in South Zeal got to experience what it feels like to fly a Boeing 737-800 aircraft during a fun-filled morning at the newly launched Virtual Jet Centre located at the Xpressway Business Park in Chudleigh, just outside Exeter.

The Virtual Jet Centre offers ‘Fear of Flying’ courses, family experience days and pilot and cabin crew training from its state-of-the-art centre, which opened its doors in May, 2014.

Exeter Eagles soar to new heights

Exeter Eagles BMX club celebrated the completion of works to develop their track and facilities at a special evening event.

Funding for the new facilities has been provided by the Coastal Recycling Community Fund and has involved improvements to the track and the completion of a new toilet block and development of the club and catering room.

The track is now a centre of excellence with riders coming from all over the South West to compete and practice. The sport has become even more popular since the London Olympics and the Eagles Junior section is booming.
