Winter likely to have been sunniest since 1929

This winter is very likely to be a record breaker. Provisional Met Office statistics show that the UK has had its sunniest winter in records dating back to 1929.

While the figures for temperature and rainfall are fairly average, it has been one of, if not the sunniest winter in UK records dating back to 1929.

By 25 February the UK had already seen 189 hours of sunshine, equalling the 2001 record, but with 3 more days left to the end of the meteorological winter we are likely to beat that record by about 7 hours.

Community buildings fund successes

East Devon’s village halls and community buildings have successfully applied for another £7,016 of funding from East Devon District Council (EDDC).

The Community Building Fund is a grants scheme that helps community buildings projects, with East Devon District Council offering grants of anything up to £5,000.

3D cloning of RAMM's collections

Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) and Exeter Library’s FabLab are collaborating to see how 3D printing technology can be used to replicate objects from the museum's collection.

Interested by the potential of printable replicas to increase visitor engagement and generate revenue Tony Eccles, curator of Ethnography, started investigating 3D printing technology. Can you help to keep vulnerable adults safer?

A powerful new film highlighting the abuse suffered by adults at risk has been launched to coincide with Safeguarding Adults Awareness Week in Devon and Torbay.

Last year there were over 2,700 safeguarding adult abuse concerns reported to Devon and Torbay Local Safeguarding Adults teams and the latest campaign, starting on Monday 2 March, aims to raise public awareness about this important issue.

Child seriously injured in Crediton collision

A child was seriously injured in a collision in Crediton yesterday (Saturday 28 February).

The local 11-year-old is reported to be in a critical condition at the RD&E Hospital in Exeter.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen a white Vauxhall combo van being driven between Crediton and Morchard road along the A377 at around 1.30pm.

Exeter Crowdcube achieves new record

JustPark, the pioneering app and website that connects parking space owners with drivers looking for a convenient space, reached its £1 million crowdfunding target through Exeter-based Crowdcube after just four days.

JustPark’s pitch is currently overfunding to the tune of £1.7 million (171% of its original target) and is set to close the round shortly. However, the pitch will remain open for further investment for a limited period of time (unless it reaches the maximum investment amount first).

Tickets are now on sale for the biggest annual event in Devon.

The Devon County Show on May 21st, 22nd and 23rd will be packed with people, animals, competitions and entertainment.

Show Secretary, Ollie Allen said they were getting ready to serve up ‘a giant slice of Devon country life’.
