River Cottage HQ, on the Devon-Dorset border, was yesterday proud to welcome HRH The Princess Royal as an honoured guest. The Princess Royal, as President of the City and Guilds of London Institute, visited River Cottage HQ to meet the apprentices being trained by Lead Chef Tutor Gary Richmond. Right to rent checks introduced for landlords

The Government has announced today that from 1 February 2016, all private landlords in England will have to check new tenants have the right to be in the UK before renting out their property.

Under the new rules, landlords who fail to check a potential tenant’s ‘Right to Rent’ will face penalties of up to £3,000 per tenant.

The new law will mean that private landlords, including those who sub-let or take in lodgers, must check the right of prospective tenants to be in the country to avoid being hit with a penalty.

Arts Council chief exec to visit Exeter

Darren Henley, the Chief Executive of Arts Council England, will be in Exeter on 21 October visiting some of the City’s outstanding arts and cultural organisations.

During his trip Darren will visit Exeter Phoenix, The Bike Shed Theatre, Devon Library and Royal Albert Memorial Museum.

All of the organisations receive funding through Arts Council England.

Last year (2014/15) the Arts Council invested over £2.4million in Exeter, recognising the excellent work done in the city.

Charlene Moore, reported missing from the Exeter area on Monday morning, has returned home safe and well.

Devon and Cornwall Police have thanked everyone for their help in sharing their appeal to help find her.

Featuring city landmarks, national landscapes and the work of the English visionary Cecil Collins, the new exhibition of Exeter’s Fine Art starting at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) on Saturday 24 October will delight art lovers.

Drawn from RAMM’s extensive collection of topographical prints, drawings and watercolours, distinctive city landmarks include Mol’s Coffee House and the Higher Market. The fine art collection also includes outstanding British landscapes and some of the finest are included providing dramatic views of Wales, the Lake District and Yorkshire.

Latest section of Stop Line Way opens

The latest section of the Stop Line Way walking and cycling route has opened to the public.

The one kilometre section, from Seaton to Colyford, has been developed by Devon County Council over the past four months by JTT Contracting Ltd. Councillors will visit the new trail on Tuesday (20 October) at 10:30am to mark the opening.

The route, which was granted planning permission in September 2011, provides an off-road connection from the cemetery, near Marsh Lane, in Seaton, to Colyford Common near the junction of Seaton Road/Popes Lane, in Colyford. Councillor Stuart Hughes,...

He is one of the most recognisable, most decorated and bestselling British artists of all time, and once again Elton John will perform on British shores, having announced a string of huge dates in June next year – including a very special show at Westpoint Exeter on June 19th.

Elton will, as part of these dates, bring his world-renowned live band show to Exeter on June 19th, in what will be a truly unique and special event – he has only performed in Exeter twice before, once in 1973 and once in 2003 solo.
