2016 Devon Farm Business Awards launch

The 2016 Devon Farm Business Awards were launched on Monday 2 November, on the farm of Devon’s 2015 “Farmer of the Year”, John and Clare Clapp, at Hartnoll, near Tiverton.

The awards are organised by a partnership of the Addington Fund, the Devon County Agricultural Association (DCAA), and Stephens Scown Solicitors.

Speaking at the launch, DCAA Chairman, Mary Quicke MBE, said that it was when prices were low and times were tough that the farming community most needed the new ideas and business excellence that the awards scheme is designed to highlight.

Dawlish man jailed for murdering wife

A 37-year-old man has been found guilty of murdering his wife at Exeter Crown Court today (Tuesday 3 November).

James Luke McDonald (pictured) of Kingsdown Crescent, Dawlish, was sentenced to life imprisonment, to serve a minimum term of 17 and a half years, for the murder of Sophie McDonald in January.

Sophie (pictured) was reported missing to police at around 6.40pm on Wednesday 28 January 2015.

An extensive search was undertaken by specialist officers and volunteer search and rescue groups.

Work starts on Exmouth play site

Exmouth children will have a new play area to look forward to in the New Year as work has begun on £70,000 worth of improvements to the play site at Imperial Recreation Ground.

Community energy goes live in Exeter

Exeter Community Energy (ECOE) have announced that they will be launching their inaugural ‘Solar Power Community Share Offer’ on Saturday 7 November.

The share offer will seek to raise around £390,000 to install around 300kWp of rooftop solar panels on a range of community and commercial buildings across Exeter and East Devon.

Solar PV 1 involves ECOE partnering with nine organisations who have confirmed their interest for community-owned solar to be installed on their rooftops. Four sites from this portfolio of roofs will be installed by the end of December 2015, these...

Members of the public are invited to an exhibition of clinical research currently being undertaken by clinicians at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, the leading research hospital in the South West Peninsula.

The event takes place on 5th November from 11.30am-1pm in the Research Innovation, Learning and Development (RILD) building on the hospital’s Wonford site. It will include a chance to view presentations on the exciting developments in clinical care currently being investigated by RD&E teams and an opportunity to meet with clinicians to discuss their work....
