Exeter’s BHS store is to close after efforts to find a buyer for the chain failed.
It was confirmed this afternoon that the retailer is to go into liquidation, which will mean the loss of up to 11,000 jobs in stores across the country, including Exeter.
All 163 stores will be closing over the coming weeks.
Last year, BHS was sold by the retail entrepreneur Sir Philip Green for £1. He had bought the chain for £200m in 2000.
The new owner was headed by Dominic Chappell, a former racing driver who had previously been declared bankrupt.
