Stagecoach South West has this year, strengthened its partnerships with Devon County Council and Exeter City Council in relation to the joint efforts to prevent and tackle antisocial behaviour in and around Exeter’s bus station, improving safety and the overall customer experience by providing greater visibility and linking its CCTV system to the city-wide network.

New areas of the Exe Estuary protected for wildlife

Two new areas to protect wildlife on the Exe Estuary are being put in place this week.

Known as wildlife refuges, the areas are marked out with yellow ‘special mark’ buoys which have “WR” in black letters printed on them. People are being asked to avoid the areas, all year round at Dawlish Warren National Nature Reserve (NNR) and between15 September to 31 December at Exmouth Local Nature Reserve (LNR).

Barratt in Exeter supports apprenticeships with marketing appointment

Five star housebuilder Barratt Developments has appointed its first marketing apprentice in Exeter as part of expansion plans in the south west.

Barney Munn has joined the Exeter-based team which looks after Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes in the region.

Young people across Cranbrook have brought new meaning to the term ‘recycling’ by creating an eye-catching and colourful town-wide public art display from old bikes.

In all 14 bikes have been painted, decorated and placed around the town – and now visitors are being challenged to find them all. The bikes have been decorated by members of the Cranbrook Youth Group, Youth Genesis and students from Cranbrook Education Campus and St Martins Primary School, with each bike painted in the colours of one of the competing teams. People can now refill their water bottles for free at Youth Hostels throughout Devon. There are 4 youth hostels throughout Devon where people can refill their water bottles. The leading youth charity, YHA (England and Wales), has joined Refill, a national free tap water initiative designed to reduce plastic pollution by making refilling water bottles as easy, convenient and cheap as possible. More than 15 local dogs celebrated Devon Loves Dogs’ first birthday on Saturday, with prizes, games and treats for dogs, as well as a specially-made dog birthday cake.

Devon Loves Dogs joined forces with Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust to take dogs and their owners on a guided, waggy walk around the Pebblebed Heaths to learn about the special wildlife there. Works to replenish the rock revetment in front of Exmouth’s historic listed seawall were given the go ahead at a meeting of East Devon District Council on 25 July 2018.

The repairs to the revetment, which is adjacent to the recently completed Mamhead slipway, are required in response to a continual lowering of the estuary seabed in this location. The rock revetment, which was originally constructed in the 1970s, has become increasingly ineffective over the past ten years. The rock at the western end is moving away from the toe of the seawall, leaving it unprotected and vulnerable....

Countryside team take on South West Coast Path Challenge

The East Devon District Council Countryside team and friends will be walking 22 miles along the South West Coast Path from Exe to Axe as part of South West Coast Path Challenge month.

The South West Coast Path covers 630 miles from Minehead in Somerset to Poole Harbour in Dorset. The East Devon section of the coast path spans 26 miles from Exmouth to Lyme Regis and forms part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. This section of the path is managed by the National Trust and the East Devon Countryside team, on behalf of Devon County Council.
