Donations to local group will be doubled this week as part of national match funding campaign

Topsham based charity, Estuary League of Friends, have launched their appeal to raise £10,000 in a week to provide vital services to support people in need of care, comfort and support in rural communities between Exeter and Exmouth.

The appeal is part of national match funding campaign #SmallCharityWeek . Donations made to Estuary online at BigGive.org between 23–30 June 2025 will be matched £1 for £1. So, a gift of £10 becomes £20, £50 becomes £100, and so on!

All the funds raised will be used to deliver vital services for the community such as:

Devon’s residents and businesses are being encouraged to get involved in the Sugar Smart September campaign this year, which challenges individuals across the South West to reduce or cut out their sugar consumption.

Victorian families were able to enjoy their own version of Netflix by utilising an early form of ‘pay-per-view’ entertainment to while away winter evenings, new research has found.

Nineteenth-century households were able to have access to hundreds of images of far and exotic lands, comic scenes and classic novels, all from the comfort of their homes after magic lanterns and stereoscopes became available to hire.

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, will be rolling out new livery across all its Bombardier Q400 and Embraer 175 aircraft over the next six years, the first of which elegantly wings its way into the fleet today (Tuesday 4th September 2018). The National Trust’s Knightshayes in Tiverton is asking for visitors, members and volunteers to share their memories and stories of the property to help celebrate the 150 year anniversary of laying of the foundation stone of the house in 1869. Families in Devon are being urged to talk during Organ Donation Week (September 3 to 9) as new figures show 30 people from the area have died waiting for a transplant in the last five years.
