Putting people first in Exeter and Devon – time to have your say

Engagement is underway on the city council’s proposals for the future reorganisation of local government in Devon.

Councillors backed proposals for the geography for a potential new unitary authority which includes the city of Exeter and surrounding areas at an Extraordinary Council meeting.

The city council is proposing:

  • An urban unitary council for Exeter and the surrounding areas
  • An urban unitary council for Plymouth and adjacent Parishes
  • A rural and coastal unitary council for the remainder of Devon

Libraries across Devon celebrate the Summer Book Quest with special events

Children across Devon can join The Summer Book Quest for free at their local library from 12th July. The brand new Quest has been created by Libraries Unlimited, the charity commissioned to run the libraries in Devon and Torbay. It offers a refreshing change to the usual reading challenge with children encouraged to participate by doing a variety of activities along the theme of "Deep Sea Adventure".

On 16th July 2025 staff and residents at Cumberland Grange care home in Exeter will be dusting off their dancing shoes, leg warmers and glowsticks for the launch of their new Dementia Disco initiative.

Knowing how much their residents living with dementia love to dance and sing, the activities team at Cumberland Grange care home came up with the genius idea of a dementia-friendly disco. Topsham business HCT Turf has launched a community-focused campaign with a rather unusual prize up for grabs - a donation of turf.

The turf-growing specialist, established in 1973, is calling for nominations from community groups, schools, sports clubs, charities or even individuals whose grounds or lawns could benefit from returfing with hard-wearing, locally grown turf.
