All aboard - a new initiative to support Devon’s Young Carers

Devon Young Carers at Westbank has launched a new initiative to support young people who care for family members. Called the Young Carers Movement Group, it gives young carers a platform to share their views on the support service provided by Westbank Community Health and Care, as well as suggest improvements, and highlight additional support young carers would like to see in the future. The new group also provides a safe space to talk openly about the challenges and experiences of growing up as a young carer.

A schoolboy from St Peter’s CoE Aided School, Exeter has reached the final stages of a national competition to find tech solutions to big challenges like climate change.

On Wednesday Tuesday 22nd June, renowned horticulturalist and RHS judge Jim Buttress visited Millbrook Village to give an expert talk and judge a resident gardening competition.

Jim discussed how to design and maintain a patio or balcony garden and gave his top tips for creating beautiful containers and hanging baskets. He also talked about his experiences as a leading horticulturist and offered residents the opportunity to ask him their gardening questions.

Two sisters from the south west will be walking the White Horse Trail, a 100-mile route through Wiltshire offering views of the eight white horses that are cut into the turf of the chalk hillsides, to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund and the RAF Air Cadets. To mark the air cadets’ 80th anniversary, the youth organisation has partnered with the Fund to launch a campaign aiming to raise £80,000. A ceremony has been held to mark progress on vital infrastructure to support economic growth on the outskirts of Newton Abbot.

The scheme, which will unlock the development of employment land and 2,500 homes, is being funded by the Department for Transport, Devon County Council, the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (HotSWLEP) and Teignbridge District Council.
