Leading South West building services engineering company EX2 Group has welcomed three new apprentices this week, as they begin their professional training in Electrical Installation with Exeter College.

Christian, Alfie, and Harvey were welcomed to the Exeter offices by James Rayner (right), Project Manager. The apprentices will combine on-site experience with classroom learning as they work towards their Level 3 Electrical Installation qualifications. Local charity, Exeter Homes Trus t, celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this week by taking part in The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative and unveiling a commemorative plaque at one of the Almshouse properties.

Exeter Homes Trust, formerly known as The Exeter Municipal Charity, was founded over 900 years ago. Providing housing for people, who are unable to remain in their own homes by reason of reduced circumstances, the Charity owns and manages 143 Almshouses in the city, at 8 estates. A board of 10 directors governs Exeter Homes Trust.

Exeter care home starts sunflower growing competition

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Cumberland Grange care home in Exeter got their hands dirty as they planted a number of sunflower seeds, ready to start a sunflower competition.

As we start to enjoy all that spring has to offer, with daffodils and tulips making an appearance in the garden, staff and residents plan to plant lots more flowers, herbs and vegetables to bring the garden to life. But for now, we start with sunflowers!

Western Power Distribution (WPD) is pledging to support its most vulnerable customers in Devon with grants from its Community Matters Fund ahead of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week. Devon’s local authorities are supporting local residents who want to provide sanctuary to the Ukrainian refugees who have been forced to flee their homes.

A new website now hosts the latest guidance and information as it becomes available.

Team Devon, which includes Devon County Council, East Devon, Mid Devon, North Devon, South Hams, Teignbridge and Torridge District Councils, West Devon Borough Council and Exeter City Council, condemned Russia's actions when it first invaded Ukraine.

The RSPB are supporting the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (the RD&E) to enhance their outdoor spaces for staff, volunteers, patients, carers, visitors and local wildlife.

A number of the outdoor spaces located at the RD&E Wonford site’s have recently been renovated – this includes the development of a new wildflower meadow area, a staff garden, and a memory courtyard. The support offered by the RSPB will help the RD&E to enhance these spaces and make sure they benefit the Trust’s local wildlife too.

Over 1,000 supporters stepped up for their local hospice charity by taking part in its iconic fundraising event last month.

Men’s Walk returned on 12 March to raise sponsorship for Hospiscare ’s vital end-of-life care for local people living with a terminal illness.

All eligible laboratories at the University of Exeter have now achieved Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) accreditation.

Exeter labs began applying for LEAF status in early 2021, and the awards mean that all labs are officially greener and more sustainable than 12 months ago.

This makes Exeter just the second institution in the LEAF programme to reach this 100% milestone.
