Westbank’s Community Allotment made accessible to all thanks to Kier’s volunteers

Manpower and materials donated to Westbank Community Health and Care by the Kier Group have transformed the charity’s Community Allotment at Exminster into a space that’s accessible to everyone.

Eleven local volunteers from Kier’s Natural Resources Nuclear & Networks division recently worked over a total of about 4 days to create a tarmac access ramp, level the ground and lay a concrete pathway to make the allotment accessible to wheelchair users. The monetary value of the work amounts to approximately £7,000, including labour and materials.

Bank Holiday rail strike suspended

The largest rail union, RMT, has suspended strike action due to take place this Bank Holiday weekend.

In a letter to members this afternoon, general secretary Mick Cash said:

"After four days of talks at conciliation service Acas between your union and Network Rail management, the company has tabled a revised offer.

"Your Executive Committee has considered this offer and decided to suspend all industrial action which had been scheduled to take place on Monday 25th May and Tuesday 26th May 2015.

Grandparents suffer when couples split

New figures show that over 8,000 grandparents sought advice from the Grandparents’ Association last year after being denied access to their grandchildren. Half term fun at A la Ronde

Parking proposals for Exeter residents

Proposals to improve on-street parking for residents in the Burnthouse Lane, Rifford Road and St Loyes Road area of Exeter will be displayed at a public exhibition next week.

The exhibition will be held at the Wonford Methodist Church Hall (opposite Lidl) on Tuesday 26 May between 1pm and 7pm.
