Exeter ranked move-friendly city

Exeter has been named one of the UK’s least stressful cities to move to, thanks to strong infrastructure, good housing availability, and ease of access to short-term services.

In a new national study released by Pay Less for Storage, Exeter scored 74 out of 100 in the “move-friendliness” index, ranking joint 10th alongside Inverness, Lancaster and Ripon. The research measured practical relocation challenges like van hire access, local self-storage options, chain-free housing stock, and the availability of short-term rentals.

Cake crazy Hospiscare picture gallery

We’re going cake crazy as we prepare for the Big Devon Bake Off – cakes are being found all over the Exeter hospice!

Whilst strolling in the garden our Hospiscare chaplain Nigel found two cakes tucked in a tree, housekeeper Wendy found them everywhere, ward secretary Denise discovered her desk smothered in creamy cupcakes, as did receptionist Sharon.

Hospiscare patient Lily who was having a cuppa in the day centre, was surprised to discover cakes had suddenly appeared on her chair, even the goldfish bowl in reception did not escape.

Quiz your councillors!

People in Exeter are being given the chance to quiz councillors on any “burning” issues for the city.

Exeter residents are invited to put forward questions to members of the joint County and City Councils' Exeter Board, at their next meeting on 30 July at 5:30pm at the Civic Centre in Paris Street.

The Board allocates 15 minutes for their ‘open forum’, with 3 minutes per speaker, with a maximum of 3 - 4 speakers to allow time for discussion.

Previously, residents have prompted debate about issues including street lighting, homelessness and waste collection.

Broadband boost for Devon businesswomen

Women in business in Devon and Somerset are set to benefit from a £1.1m superfast broadband fund as part of plans announced by the Prime Minister this week to ‘to end the gender pay gap in a generation’.

Devon and Somerset successfully bid for a share of the money which is being made available as part of the extension of a Government initiative, announced by the Chancellor in the Budget, to help women take advantage of faster broadband to move their businesses online, expand or set up new businesses.

Rugby World Cup winner Jason Leonard OBE believes Sandy Park will deliver an “electric atmosphere” when it welcomes the global tournament to Devon later this year.

It's national scams awareness month and Devon & Somerset Trading Standards Service is encouraging everyone to be vigilant and protect themselves against scams.

By far the best weapon against scam operators is knowledge and the more people talk about scams, the less impact the scammers are likely to have.

Young Chiefs become Pirates

Exeter Chiefs have handed Championship side Cornish Pirates a pre-season boost by agreeing to allow six of their squad to join them on dual registered terms this season.

The Lammas Glove will be raised above Exeter on Friday as part of a ceremony dating back more than 900 years.

Exeter's Royal Albert Memorial Museum has been shortlisted for the Telegraph Family Friendly Museum Award

RAMM is one of only six museums to be shortlisted for this year's award – the biggest museum award in Britain.

The competition has been tough with a record-breaking 800 nominations this year. The six finalists have been chosen by a panel of experts.
