Ambulance service opens up life-saving app alerts to public responders

The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) has announced that, as of 2 June 2025, trained members of the public registered with the GoodSAM Responder app, will be alerted to nearby cardiac arrest calls received by the 999 ambulance control room.

GoodSAM which stands for Good S martphone A ctivated M edics, uses mobile GPS technology to notify the nearest available responder when a cardiac arrest occurs within 500 metres of their location. These responders can then begin cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in the precious minutes before an ambulance arrives...

Local schools benefit from free fruit trees

Local schools including Kenn C of E Primary School and Kenton Primary School have benefitted from a free fruit tree planting programme offered across Devon, Dorset and South-West Somerset by environmental education company Little Green Change.

Schools were able to choose up to four apple, pear, plum and/or cherry trees each for their grounds.

Children from both schools helped to plant the trees, as well as daffodils, and learnt about the many benefits of these to important pollinators like bees, other wildlife like birds, and to human health through the fruit the trees...

Ahead of National Volunteers week, which runs from 2 until 8 June , Cadets attended a special celebration event at police headquarters in Middlemoor, last week, which shone a light on the valuable contribution cadets make to the force.

At the event held on Wednesday 28 May, Devon & Cornwall Police recognised 100 Cadets and 30 Cadet Leaders for their efforts and for giving up their free time to support police officers to make local communities safer.
