Free wood available from Exeter builders merchant

The Exeter branch of RGB Building Supplies is offering excess wood to the local community and groups for free.

The branch has a number of damaged wooden pallets, that can be broken down, as well as off-cuts of wood which people are welcome to collect and use to complete projects.

Paul West, Branch Manager at RGB Exeter, commented:

“The wood is perfectly usable so instead of simply skipping it, we wanted to offer it out to those who wish to complete jobs in their own homes, or community groups and charities who are struggling to fund the purchase of wood to...

New partnership for local woodland

Holyford Woods Local Nature Reserve is now being managed by East Devon District Council’s Countryside Team in partnership with Axe Vale & District Conservation Society (AVDCS), following the dissolution of the long-standing Holyford Woodland Trust.

Holyford Woodland Trust (HWT) was formed in 2001 when South West Water put the wooded valley up for sale and the cost of purchase to secure this important wild space for nature was met by East Devon District Council and community fundraising, led by HWT. Since then, much good work has taken place within the woodland, to maintain and...

Exeter builders merchant giving away wood

The Exeter branch of RGB Building Supplies is offering excess wood to the local community and groups at no cost.

The branch has spare pallets and wood from packaging that people are invited to pick up and make use of for projects, or to help with local bonfire night celebrations.

Paul West, Branch Manager at RGB Exeter, commented: “The wood is perfect for community organisations who are organising firework displays, or for people looking to complete small projects in their homes. The items generally go into a skip to be destroyed, but as the wood is perfectly usable, we...

The move significantly increases the scale of Forest Fuels’ operations, enhancing the company’s ability to deliver sustainable wood fuel.

Peter Solly (pictured), managing director of Forest Fuels said: “This is great news for our wood pellet customers as it further enhances our coverage, especially for blown deliveries, where a blower vehicle blows the wood pellets directly into the fuel hopper with minimal fuss and...

Renewable energy group to set up wood fuel hub

The South Devon Coastal Renewable Energy Network (SDCREN) has secured funding from the Regen SW Community Energy Accelerator Devon County Council fund.

The funding will help investigate and initiate the first building blocks of a local wood fuel hub where local farmers, land owners and the community can work together to source affordable wood fuel, boost the local economy and create employment.

This work follows a SDCREN study into biomass as a suitable fuel for South Devon and a very successful wood fuel from hedges event in March this year at South Pool organised with the...
