MP backs report exposing grisly wildlife cybertrade

Neil Parish MP, Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare, has given his backing to a report that sheds light on the murky multi-million pound trade in wild animals and their parts that is booming across online marketplaces, with questions being asked as to the legality of many advertisements offering endangered species for sale.

The shocking report released last week by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) shows how thousands of endangered species are bought and sold on the Internet, many advertised without any form of supporting documentation...

Residents asked for views on wild beavers

People are being asked their views about the future of Devon’s first wild beaver population for more than 300 years.

A public meeting is being held to discuss the beavers on Tuesday 19 August at The Institute in the east Devon town of Ottery St Mary (EX11 1HD), close to where the beavers are believed to be living on the River Otter.

The hosts, Devon Wildlife Trust, are inviting people to make their views known from 3pm on the day with a formal public meeting scheduled for 7.30pm that evening.

The garden at Little Ash Bungalow at Fenny Bridges near Honiton, opens to the public on Sunday 17 August.

Gardener Helen Brown has developed a haven for wildlife which is just bursting with late summer colour and buzzing with insects. The garden has been developed over the past 14 years and has mixed tree, shrub and herbaceous borders filled with unusual plants; a pond and natural stream, with shady woodland area. The garden is designed to blend into the countryside beyond and enjoys lovely views towards East Hill and the River Otter.

View Seaton nightlife – it could be a hoot!

Nature lovers can join East Devon District Council's Countryside Rangers in Seaton on Friday 18 July between 8.30 and 10.30pm to listen for the evening sounds of the inhabitants of the nature reserve.

Those who attend will learn how to use their senses from twilight to darkness, and may even be treated to a sighting of the reserve's Barn Owl.

The session will take place on Friday 18 July between 8.30-10.30pm.

Booking is essential as places are limited, and the event is weather dependent.
