It's that time of the year again to have another 'West Side' Community Meeting.

This time we're going to be holding it at Redhills School on Wed 25th Apr from 7pm - 8.30pm. We realized that our last meeting went on for longer than we wanted so we're going to cut this one by half an hour.

We've got a lot to fit in but our agenda at the minute is:

1. Meet the team. 2. Current force priorities. 3. Local issues. 4. Modern Slavery and Op Cleft (County Lines) 5. Q&A.

Again we'll be looking at inviting the local Councillors' from each ward so you can ask them...

Student of the year is aiming sky high

West Exe’s current student of the year is aiming high during her last year at secondary school.

Camille Murray won the school’s 2016 student of the year award, also gaining a certificate for a hundred percent attendance throughout her time at West Exe.

The award has given Camille, 15, the inspiration to excel in everything she does. The student is keen to enrol on Exeter College’s Flybe course next September.

“I want to travel the world and be paid for it,” she said.

WESC Foundation presented with new minibus

On Friday 24th June WESC Foundation, Exeter’s specialist day and residential centre for young people and adults with visual impairment, was presented with a new minibus and marks the 40th year that the Lord’s Taverners have been helping charities.

Bradninch excavation: Police confirm 'nothing of significance' found

Police investigating the garden at the former home of a paedophile couple, who knew serial killers Fred and Rose West, have confirmed that nothing of significance has been found and the investigation is now complete.

Excavations began on Tuesday (3 May) in the rear garden of a bungalow in Bradnich, near Cullompton, following historic intelligence linked to the former occupants of the council-owned property, David and Pauline Williams.

Young gardeners throw in the trowel

Gardeners in the South West are losing their green fingers as nine in ten young people struggle to identify common garden plants, new research reveals.

A study of 2,000 Brits aged 25-35 found that time pressures and lack of knowledge meant that the majority struggle when it comes to nurturing their gardens.

Over three quarters of those living in the region couldn’t identify a tulip when shown a picture of one, while 84 per cent struggled with a geranium.

Perhaps that’s why just over 2 per cent of those polled described their gardening skill as ‘very good’.

Local law firm, Kitsons, has become the first local business to directly fund a children’s hospice nurse at Children’s Hospice South West Little Bridge House in Fremington, North Devon.

The firm of solicitors, which has offices in Exeter, Torquay and Plymouth, has pledged £1,000 towards CHSW’s ‘Sponsor a Nurse’ campaign, an exciting new corporate initiative that allows business to contribute directly to the vital funding of a nurse for the hospice. £14.2m funding to nurture next generation of arts and humanities researchers

The South, West and Wales Consortium, in which the University of Exeter is joined with seven other universities – Aberystwyth, Bath, Bath Spa, Bristol, Cardiff, Reading and Southampton – has been awarded £14.2 million funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) over the next five years to deliver postgraduate supervision, training and skills development from 2014.

The consortium is one of 11 new Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs) and seven Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs) to have been awarded a total of £164m funding from the AHRC.
