Exeter Solar van shows off the power of renewable energy

Members of the public in Exeter who thought solar panels were only used to generate renewable electricity on houses and in fields have been stunned over the past few weeks to see a High tech ‘solar van’ – emblazoned with PV panels – at various locations around the city.

The solar van, designed and put together by local company SunGift Energy, has been cruising around the city, visiting shows, and parked up at various events with the aim of demonstrating to the public that it is possible for solar PV to provide 100% renewable energy to almost any location within minutes of arriving...

Bright outlook for Met Office solar system

Despite poor weather, Met Office solar PV has generated more than estimated in first year.

A year after a 250 kW solar PV array was installed at the Met Office HQ Exeter, and – despite some terrible weather over the past 12 months – the system has still out-performed initial estimations.

The sun may be in full view now (with the Met Office predicting below average rainfall and above average temperatures throughout July) but official statistics show that 2012 was one of the wettest years on record for the UK and June 2012 was the least sunny in records dating back to 1910....

Powering ‘Henry’ HQ with renewable energy

Exeter renewable energy specialist SunGift Solar has completed a flagship 250 kW solar PV system for Numatic International – manufacturer of the world-renowned Henry vacuum at the company’s HQ in Chard, Somerset.

Generating an estimated 235,000 kW hours each year (equivalent to the average annual electricity usage of 71 homes), the 1,000-panel system stretches over three roofs at Numatic’s manufacturing facility and took just under a month to complete. It will help power thirty-four computer-controlled injection-moulding machines and will save the production of more than 120 tonnes...

Work begins on solar panels for City Council buildings

Work has begun on the installation of solar panels on Exeter City Council's buildings.

The 800 panels, which are currently being put up on two roofs of the Civic Centre and three other sites across Exeter, will have a capacity of about 200 kilowatts – that’s the equivalent of 50 standard domestic solar photovoltaic systems!

The Express & Echo has announced that it is to team up with Marsh Barton-based Sungift Solar to shed some much-needed festive illuminations on Exeter's High Street this Christmas.
