Summer Lane in Exeter re-opened

Summer Lane in Exeter has re-opened to through traffic (Wednesday 20 January) as the finishing touches are applied to the new pedestrian and cycle bridge.

The bridge will open to pedestrians and cyclists next month, once the installation of handrails and guardrails has been completed.

Bridge lifted into place at Summer Lane in Exeter

The expanding cycle network in Exeter received another lift at the weekend, with the installation of a new pedestrian and cycle bridge.

The new bridge at Summer Lane completes the first two kilometres of Devon County Council's E4 cycle route - providing a vital connection between Exeter Arena/Exhibition Fields and Bettysmead Playing Fields.

It establishes a direct link which will shorten the route and will remove sharp deviations in direction, narrow shared paths, and the necessity to use a Toucan crossing on Summer Lane.

Bike Blaze in Whipton

In the last few hours, fire crews have been called to put out a motorcycle fire in Whipton, Exeter.

The incident, which occurred at Summer Lane on Saturday evening, involved one vehicle being severely damaged in what is believed to be a deliberate attack.

One fire engine from Middlemoor station was sent out, and the crew extinguished flames using buckets of water. No injuries have been reported.

A la Ronde is delighted to be hosting an exhibition of Mick Abbott’s paintings, many of which were inspired by items within the A la Ronde collection.

Mick Abbott is a full time artist, dividing his time between Cambridge, Brittany and New York. He was an art teacher at Comberton Village College, Cambridge for 22 years and loved it. In recent years Mick has been Artist in Residence at several National Trust properties, including Newark Park and Hanbury Hall, and in 2013 is delighted to be associated with A la Ronde. Isca Centre Wedding Fayre

The Isca Centre will be holding their first ever wedding fayre on Sunday 7 April.

So, if you are planning a wedding, then this fayre could be the place to find inspiration. Exhibits will include wedding dresses, menswear, florists, photographers, cake/maker/decorators, entertainment, hair and make-up artists, jewellers, wedding hats, transport, room and table decorations, wedding favours and much more.

Entry is free and doors are open 10am-4pm.
