The results of a consumer survey, which reveals that 88 per cent of local people try to buy Devon-sourced goods whenever possible, presents a ‘huge opportunity’ for local businesses says Devon County Council’s (DCC) Cabinet Member for Economic Recovery.

Councillor Rufus Gilbert, DCC's Cabinet Member for Economic Recovery and Skills, is encouraging Devon’s businesses to ‘grasp the nettle’ and sign up to the Made in Devon scheme , who will be at the Devon County Show this weekend from Thursday 30 June to Saturday July 2.

The East Devon District Council #StayLocalShopSafe campaign aims to encourage East Devon residents to rediscover the high street and support local businesses, now that lockdown restrictions are lifted.

East Devon District Council (EDDC) has received an allocation of £130,992 of funding from the European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020 to support the safe reopening of High Streets and town centres.

Many businesses across the UK have been plunged into the depths of economic despair due to the Coronavirus pandemic. In fact, between March and June 2020, 649,000* UK employees were left unemployed as a result of lockdown. Small and medium sized businesses are the backbone of the economy, but it appears many would-be entrepreneurs are now too afraid to start their own business, given the uncertainty of the economy over the next few months and possibly years.
