Cordero signs new Chiefs deal

Santiago Cordero says he is “excited” about what lies ahead for him at Sandy Park after he today agreed terms on a new one-year deal with the Exeter Chiefs.

The Argentinian international arrived in Devon back in January on a short-term contract until the end of the season.

However, the 24-year-old’s impressive form, both in matches and in training, has done enough to convince Chiefs’ Director of Rugby Rob Baxter to extend his stay.

Although he has yet to score his first points for the current English champions, Cordero helped his new club to lift the Anglo-Welsh Cup...

Chiefs duo agree new deals

Rob Baxter’s forward thinking at Sandy Park has continued with news that both Mitch Lees and Ian Whitten have committed their futures to the Exeter Chiefs.

Just days after long-serving fly-half Gareth Steenson put pen to paper on a new three-year contract, two of his club-mates have followed suit by agreeing similar terms that will keep them at the club until 2021.

Director of Rugby Baxter makes no secret that his first priority is often retention of players ahead of recruitment and he says keeping hold of two of his more senior stars is paramount moving forward.

Chiefs side to face Harlequins

Exeter Chiefs Director of Rugby Rob Baxter says his side will need to make the most of home advantage during a crucial block of Aviva Premiership fixtures over the next month.

After seven rounds of action so far, the defending champions are positioned second in the standings, two points adrift of leaders Saracens and five clear of next best Leicester Tigers.

In Europe and in the Anglo-Welsh Cup, Devon’s finest have also made unbeaten starts in those competitions, but it’s the bread and butter of the league which is utmost in the thoughts of Baxter ahead of Sunday’s home...

The Exeter Foundation is launching its first Devon Sporting Legacy Project Grant to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Devon Sports Awards.

The Foundation, which is the official charity of the Exeter Chiefs, is making £20,000 available to match fund an existing organisation’s project fund to assist them with the achievement and completion of their sporting legacy project.

The funds will be available for a Devon-based project, which will help enhance the local area and community.

Chairman of the Exeter Foundation, Tony Rowe OBE, said: “We have generated this...

Short full of praise for Chiefs pack

Hat-trick hero James Short praised the contribution of the Exeter Chiefs pack as they brushed aside the attentions of Worcester Warriors in their latest Aviva Premiership encounter on Saturday.

The talented winger took his seasonal tally to ten touchdowns with his timely treble at Sixways, but it was the efforts of those around him – particularly up front – that the 27-year-old was quick to highlight following his side’s 48-32 success.

“You’re always glad to be on the scoresheet, but I thought the forwards were outstanding,” said Short. “They really pushed Worcester around...

Chiefs side to face Northampton Saints

Rob Baxter says it’s vital his Exeter Chiefs side look to build on the momentum they have generated in recent weeks when they travel to Northampton Saints in Round Five of the Aviva Premiership tomorrow night (7:45pm). Having recovered from opening losses to Wasps and Saracens, the mood at Sandy Park has changed considerably in the past fortnight after the Chiefs collected maximum hauls from their last two outings against Harlequins and Bristol. Those victories have helped to lift the Devonians into fifth spot, much to the satisfaction of Baxter who is hopeful his players can continue...

Chiefs side to face Wasps

Rob Baxter insists his Exeter Chiefs side are in “good nick” ahead of their seasonal opener against Wasps in the Aviva Premiership on Sunday (3pm).

Runners-up last season, the Chiefs head for a testing away-day at the Ricoh Arena looking to lay down a solid foundation from which to attack the 2016/17 season.

An unbeaten pre-season programme – which saw the Devon club record victories over Guinness Pro12 sides Scarlets, Ulster and Newport-Gwent Dragons – have given a solid enough base from which to build, but Baxter knows the hard work starts this weekend, up against a...
