‘For the Love of Bugs’ will take place at Southernhay’s United Reform Church, Exeter at 7.30 pm. Nick promises a talk that will be entertaining, informative and humorous – so how can you resist.

Repairs begin on Topsham flood wall

Exeter City Council has begun repair work to the wall at Bowling Green Marsh, Topsham, using money from the government's funds.

The repairs come after a large section of the coastal defence alongside the River Clyst frontage was severely damaged during the high tides and storm damage in January and February.

This resulted in a breach which allowed the high tides to overtop and flow into the protected land and inkland road behind it. These raised defences provide protection to the RSPB reserve at Bowling Green Marsh and a number of nearby properties and businesses.

Greenkeepers do their bit for National Nest Box Week

The golf course greenkeepers at Exeter Golf and Country Club are doing their bit for National Nest Box Week to protect the bird population of the golf course. With 12 of their 28 nest boxes currently active, the self-named ‘Green Soldiers’ are working hard to increase activity year-on-year and have an action plan in place for National Nest Box Week.

National Nest Box Week starts tomorrow (14 February) and is organised each year by the British Trust for Ornithology, Britain’s leading bird research charity. The BTO primarily researches populations of our common and garden birds....

Incredible ‘gannet cam’ captures birds’ eye view

Scientists from The University of Exeter and the RSPB have captured incredible footage of what it’s like to fly with the UK’s largest seabird. Researchers working on the island nature reserve of RSPB Grassholm in Pembrokeshire, Wales, attached miniature cameras to some of the gannets that nest there with fascinating results (see video). The ‘gannet cam’ footage shows a bird flying high above the stunning Pembrokeshire coastline while ships pass below.
