Rob Baxter insists the only target he has given his players ahead of their European Champions Cup campaign is to deliver “six Exeter Chiefs-type performances”.

A simple message of sorts, but one the Chiefs’ Director of Rugby is keen to see implemented, particularly as Exeter have too often been found guilty of sluggish starts against Europe’s elite clubs.

Tomorrow night, the reigning Aviva Premiership champions have the chance to kick-off the new season in style, playing host to rivals Glasgow Warriors at Sandy Park (7:45pm).

Newcastle may have flew South flying high in the Aviva Premiership, but the in-form Falcons ended up having their wings clipped by defending champions Exeter Chiefs in this Round Six encounter.

Rob Baxter's side returned to the top of the table with another maximum haul at Sandy Park.

Aussie duo Nic White and Lachie Turner both got on the try-sheet, as did man-of-the-moment Sam Simmonds, with the Chiefs sealing victory with a penalty try and 12 points from the boot of fly-half Gareth Steenson.

However, it's perhaps an indication of just how hard the Chiefs judge...

Rob Baxter has told his Exeter Chiefs to ‘keep it simple’ ahead of tomorrow’s crunch Aviva Premiership encounter with Leicester Tigers at Welford Road (3pm).

Three successive bonus point wins have put the defending champions top of the pile after four rounds of battle, but Director of Rugby Baxter knows this weekend will provide another stern examination for his in-form side.

As history dictates, the Tigers have shown their colours more than once, establishing themselves as the most decorated club side in English rugby history. Such accolades don’t come easy and Baxter...

Chiefs side to face London Irish

Exeter Chiefs may not have created history last weekend, but Director of Rugby Rob Baxter saw enough from his side in defeat at Gloucester to give him plenty of encouragement for the future. The reigning Aviva Premiership champions were downed right at the death by the Cherry & Whites, losing 28-21 in their seasonal opener at Kingsholm. Jason Woodward’s last-gasp try meant the Chiefs missed not only suffered defeat in Round One, but also missed out on setting a new record of 18 games unbeaten in English rugby’s top division. Although disappointed to come unstuck, Baxter preferred to...

Rob Baxter insists there is a “burning desire” amongst the Exeter Chiefs coaching staff to take the Devon club onto even greater things in the future, after he and his three trusty lieutenants - Ali Hepher, Rob Hunter and Ricky Pellow - today all agreed new three-year deals with the Aviva Premiership champions.

Baxter will take on the new title of Director of Rugby for the 2017/18 season, while Hepher has been named the club’s new Head Coach. Both Hunter (Forwards Coach) and Pellow (Skills Coach) will continue in their current roles, both of which have seen them help take the...

European Cup draw excites Baxter

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter believes his side have been handed a “fantastic” draw in this season’s European Champions Cup.

As one of the five top seeds for the 2017/18 competition, the newly-crowned Premiership champions have been pitted in Pool Three against rivals Montpellier, Glasgow Warriors and three-time winners Leinster.

All three opponents are familiar foes for the Chiefs, who will be looking to recreate their title-winning form onto the European stage when the competition gets underway in October.

“Every year you wait for the draw with both...
