Key information is being sent out next week to around 1,800 households living in the Feniton and Exmouth (The Colony) areas giving details of an improved recycling collection service which is to be trialled by East Devon District Council.

From mid-September, residents in these areas will be able to recycle more in their green recycling boxes as the council is adding cardboard and mixed plastics to the extensive number of items it already collects from the kerbside each week.

Every household in the trial areas will receive an additional 70 litre reusable sack which they can...

Don't skip it, share it!

Don't throw it out! See if another organisation can use it. That's the concept being explored at a special conference at County Hall in Exeter next week.

Public sector organisations are doing more to reuse items of furniture or office equipment by passing them on to someone else rather than throwing them away.

However, it's a fairly new initiative and the Council is working with WARP-It to try and encourage more organisations to do it.

Conference organiser, WARP-It, is a reuse network which helps find, give away, or loan office furniture, equipment and other...

Trials for improved recycling service

An improved recycling collection service is to be trialled in two East Devon areas this autumn following approval from the district council’s Cabinet.

Around 1,800 households in the Feniton and Exmouth (The Colony) areas will be able to recycle more during the trial as the council is adding cardboard and mixed plastics to the extensive number of items it already collects from the kerbside each week.

Every household in the trial areas will receive an additional 70 litre reusable sack which they can use for their recyclables along with their usual green recycling box. The...

City residents urged to do more to recycle

Only 38 per cent of food and drink cans are being recycled by Exeter households, it has been revealed.

The shocking statistics have been released by Exeter City Council in an attempt to encourage people to recycle more as part of National Recycle Week 2015 (22-28 June).

In Exeter, on average, 20 per cent of waste that goes in the city's grey rubbish bins could have been placed in green recycling bins. Research carried out last year showed that of all waste and recycling collected in the city, only 38 per cent of tins and cans were being recycled.

Cllr Keith Owen,...

Fund encourages new ideas on tackling waste

From today (13 April) selected schemes have the opportunity to share in a £4,000 fund.

The fund is open to all, including individuals,...

Technology pin-points trees in Exeter

Space age technology is being used to help pin-point trees in Exeter as part of a ground-breaking pilot scheme.

As part of the Space for Smarter Government Programme first call for Expression of Interest, Exeter City Council has secured £38,000 of funding from the UK Space Agency to help develop a tree management system that will allow officers to report the exact location and details of fallen or damaged trees in the city.

The system uses satellite positioning, navigation and timing technology, which is able to pick up natural objects such as trees.

If the scheme...
