A new poll reveals the negative perception that Brits have of becoming a landlord, with 36% of UK adults saying it's extremely risky being a buy-to-let landlord.

Businesses: Don't become April fools

Exeter businesses are being warned they may become “April fools” by sacrificing tens of thousands of pounds in rating refunds and savings if they do not act quickly.

The South West property market has seen the pace of price rises start to accelerate again due to the demand supply imbalance, according to the latest RICS UK Residential Market Survey.

Pace of price growth in the South West accelerated slightly over the last three months and new reform in the Autumn Statement is expected to boost sales

Stamp duty news welcomed by property industry

Long-established Crediton estate agency, Helmores, believes that the recent changes to Stamp Duty charges, announced in the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s Autumn Statement on 3 December and in effect now, is a much fairer system for home buyers.

Under the new rules, George Osborne has said that 98% of homeowners in England and Wales will pay less Stamp Duty as of midnight on 3 December, meaning that home buyers could save an average of £4,500 on stamp duty (for a property costing £275,000), which bring down the cost of buying a property for all but the highest valued properties....

Stolen property found in Sidmouth

Police investigating a series of burglaries in East Devon are hoping to return a number of items to their rightful owners.

Officers found the property following their investigations into a burglary in Sidmouth but police do not know who the items belong to or where they came from.

The recovered property includes a key fob which says “lounge french door”, a tea towel with ladybirds and daisies, and an envelope with a horse on which contained some old bank notes.

Anyone who believes the items are theirs should call DC Matt Burnell on 101.
