Diane Walker from a popular UK Staycation Travel Blog ( Staycationsintheuk.com ) would like to see the Government work with travel companies, councils, bus companies, hospital car parks, supermarkets, and entertainment companies to break the deadlock in nurses and paramedics pay disputes.

Staycations In The UK that offers ideas on places to stay in the UK and great days out for the family is shocked at how the nurses and paramedics have been treated before, during, and post COVID pandemic.

Diane walker said: “On Thursday 26th March 2020 until 28th May 2020, we clapped for...

Their Best is Not Good Enough

I've seen and heard many comments over the past few weeks in support of our government, and berating those that hold them to account. Comments such as:

"The government can't do right for wrong"

"The media should just let them get on with their job"

"This kind of crisis is unprecedented, there's no textbook"

"They are just doing their best"

Well, their best simply isn't good enough given the fact, that as one of the richest countries in the world, we are also worst affected. You only have to look at similar developed economies such as Germany,...

Facing up to difficult change

It feels like I’ve been campaigning for social and ecological justice nearly all my adult life. I have tried to criticise what I consider to be wrong and attempted to live alternative possibilities.

For fifty plus years I’ve been marching against Apartheid, Racism, Poverty and Weapons of Mass Destruction. With many others I’ve been standing up for human rights and greater equalities. We have opposed violence and proposed peaceful ends to conflicts. We have been condemning environmental destruction and wasteful lifestyles whilst promoting more sustainable agricultural, energy, and...

To Vote or not to Vote?

After observing the unedifying General Election campaign nationally and being involved in several local Hustings, I have to honestly say I am feeling very uninspired and pretty low about the overall state of English politics. In my view, we face an unprecedented global ecological challenge and a menacing destabilisation of democracy. Together these two call for an intense campaign to de-carbonise as soon as possible on the one hand, and a profound and radical overhaul of our political and economic systems and structures on the other. This means we need to set out detailed programmes to...

Devon’s political history exhibition showcases electoral campaigns

The history of politics in Devon is the theme of a new touring exhibition, starting at the University of Exeter. It showcases the political events in Devon from a local angle charting the changes in post-1945 campaigning, including images of Winston Churchill at the Devonport election in Plymouth.

The exhibition ‘From the Grassroots’ provides a picture of the county’s rich political heritage, as told by the participants involved in local politics at the time and thereafter. It brings Devon’s modern political history to life through the memories and experiences of Devon’s political...
