Community celebration marks bridge opening

A community celebration will be held on Saturday 18 July to mark the opening of the new bridge over the A38 at Heathfield and the Stover Way multi-use trail.

The route, which has been developed over the past nine months, links Bovey Tracey to Jetty Marsh Road in Newton Abbot, crossing over the A38 at Heathfield and running alongside the Stover Canal.

Dartmoor encourages play at Holne

The installation of a new Moorland Play Park in the Dartmoor village of Holne was celebrated recently at a packed community event.

Previous equipment had become very dilapidated and when this small rural parish needed to find a large sum to fund a new park – they asked Dartmoor National Park if it would be able to help. Camper van parking ban relaxed

A ban on motor-homes and camper-vans parking in EDDC car parks is being eased with effect from today (Thursday 19 March).

These vehicles may now park in the district council’s car parks during the daytime – but the ban on overnight parking of these vehicles remains in place.

East Devon District Council hopes that owners of these vehicles will choose to park in larger car parks for greater ease of access. One of Devon’s biggest independent holiday parks is enjoying a record-breaking start to the year, with bookings up nearly 50%.

Multi-award winning Ladram Bay Holiday Park, on the Jurassic coast overlooking its own bay and beach between Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton, saw bookings rise by 46% in the first full week of January, and then by 52% the following week, compared with the same period in 2014.

A Devon mum has created a new website, www.playmapp.co.uk , to detail the locations of free places for children to play.

Initially covering the whole of Devon, PlayMapp features over 600 child-friendly sites.

A quick search on the easy-to-use website, designed and developed by Rokk Media Ltd of Exeter, will demonstrate that you are never far from a play area in Devon. Site visitors can also add to the quality of entries by leaving comments and uploading photos.

New fitness trail set for Exeter park

An exciting new fitness trail is set to be installed in an Exeter park.

The trail, which will incorporate outdoor fitness equipment as well as standard exercise challenges, will be installed at Cowick Barton playing fields. The project has been made possible thanks to a £41,620 grant from Alcoa Foundation, and local company Alcoa Howmet.

Voluntary scheme launched to stub out smoking

Play areas across East Devon are signing up to a voluntary code asking people not to smoke near children.

In all, 37 play areas will be covered by the new code developed by Smokefree South West and East Devon District Council, using special signs designed by Smokefree South West.

Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park will hear the jingling of bells this Christmas when Santa, Rudolph and his helpers fly in to visit the park throughout December.

Guests are invited to join Santa in his warm and cosy grotto for Santa’s Interactive Story Time and hear magical tales of his festive adventures. East Devon District Council is once again supporting local shops over Christmas with a range of special car park deals for motorists, including a chance to win a ‘Golden Ticket’ offering three months’ free parking for up to 24 lucky motorists.

This year’s main concession will again offer a special price of all-day parking for £2 (after 10am) in all East Devon’s car parks during December. The offer includes all inland car parks and those in resorts on the Jurassic Coast.
