NEW – Want to learn how to make Honiton Lace? Daphne, an experienced Honiton Lace teacher is considering starting a new lace class on a Tuesday afternoon in the Exwick area.

All are welcome as the class would be suitable for all levels from beginner to the more experienced.

Equipment can be supplied. Classes would be held during term time only.

Students at Newton Abbot’s pioneering technical college were put through their paces when a Royal Marine Chef visited to lead an energetic cooking masterclass.

Year 10 and Year 12 students of South Devon University Technical College (UTC) received a lesson in healthy cooking from Colour Sergeant Mike Beaton. Founder of the popular Marine in 15 videos which have received over 13,000 views on YouTube, Mike put the students through their paces in a blood-pumping cooking masterclass in the college’s Challenge Arena.

Bridge lift completed ahead of schedule

A new pedestrian and cycle bridge over the M5 at Exeter has successfully been lifted into place over the weekend.

The 60-metre span Tithebarn Lane bridge was positioned alongside the existing overbridge, just north of Junction 29 of the motorway, overnight on Saturday (18 November) evening. It took 3.5 hours to fully rig the 750 tonne crane and the bridge lift started at 12:30am. The M5 was closed during the lifting operation, but re-opened three hours ahead of schedule on Sunday morning. New fleet of trains to bring better journeys to the South West

Rail passengers are set to benefit from better and faster journeys after the government gave the go-ahead for a brand new fleet of trains running between London and Cornwall.

The deal will allow First Great Western to buy 29 new long-distance trains to serve the South West from 2018.

The state-of-the-art trains will have up to 24% more seats compared to the majority of the trains serving the route today, creating more than 1,000 additional peak-time seats into and out of Paddington every day.
