A380 diversion for link road work

The constructor of the new A380 South Devon Link Road, Galliford Try, has announced the next phase of works which will impact on road users travelling towards Newton Abbot.

Police appeal for witnesses to A380 crash

At approximately 7:50am on Thursday 5February, emergency services were called to a serious road traffic collision on the A380 Newton Road, in Kingskerswell on the Priory Road junction, involving a black Triumph motorcycle and a Ford Fiesta.

The male motorcyclist was taken to Torbay District Hospital with serious foot and lower leg injuries.

The Exeter bound lane of Newton Road was closed whilst officers carried out a survey of the scene and reopened at around midday.

Pilot community project launches with 12 libraries

Twelve communities across Devon have been chosen to take part in a pioneering new partnership project to test how they can support their local libraries and expand the services they provide.

Devon County Council will work with the dedicated community groups to help shape the new organisation and try out new ways of involving local people so they can have more say on how their library is run.

Those chosen include Colyton, Bampton, Moretonhampstead and Ottery St Mary.

Archaeologists widen search at South Devon Link Road site

Archaeologists carrying out investigations in advance of the construction of the South Devon Link Road, near Kingskerswell, Devon, have widened their search.

The archaeologists, who uncovered the remains of a 2000-year-old Roman settlement and a stone-constructed medieval building in December last year, will now be undertaking a further assessment along the rest of the planned route of the new road, to establish archaeological potential.

Roman settlement remains discovered near Kingskerswell

Archaeologists carrying out investigations in advance of the construction of the South Devon Link Road, near Kingskerswell, Devon, have uncovered the remains of a 2000 year old Roman settlement and a stone-constructed 800 year old medieval building.

The Roman settlement appears to have comprised a large rectangular ditched enclosure, which appears to have been modified three times, probably as a result of ever-increasing wealth and the construction of more elaborate buildings inside the enclosure.

Devon County Council is seeking the views of local residents on the future of transport in Kingskerswell.

The South Devon Link Road (SDLR) has now received central and local government funding. Preparatory work is underway and the main works are scheduled to be completed in December 2015.
