South West tech sector set to create 125,000 jobs and grow to nearly £20bn

The South West of England’s tech sector is set to grow to almost £20bn gross value added (GVA) a year by 2026, creating over 125,000 new jobs, according to a new study from Whitecap Consulting.

The research, commissioned by Tech South West, reveals that the South West is rapidly becoming a global leader in environmental tech, with Devon an internationally recognised hub at the forefront of climate research. Devon's tech sector has 1,980 companies and a 598,400-strong workforce, generating £1,141m GVA in 2021.

The latest quarterly data from CV-Library reveals an increase in UK professionals registering their CV and looking for jobs, whilst applications to vacancies continues to decline.

Overall, the number of jobseekers registering their CV on the UK’s leading independent job board, CV-Library , were up 5% on the last quarter, however the top ten areas in the UK recorded some even big increases in candidates looking for work:

Amazon to hire more than 80 for seasonal roles in Exeter

Amazon has announced it is hiring for 20,000 seasonal positions across its UK network of fulfilment centres, sortation centres and delivery stations during the festive season, including more than 80 in the Exeter delivery station.

Travis Perkins creates 10 new roles ahead of branch opening in Exeter

Travis Perkins, the UK’s largest supplier of building materials to the building and construction industry, has recruited 10 people from the surrounding area to fill part time and full-time roles ahead of opening its new branch in Exeter in August, bringing the total number of roles to 25.

Discrimination in the workplace is illegal in the UK under the Equality Act 2010, but a new survey suggests that UK employees believe there is still some way to go to improve equality in the workplace.

VBQ Speakers surveyed 1,000 UK adults who are currently employed in the UK to find out what they think about diversity in their workplace.
