Rod licence income benefits fisheries in Devon and Cornwall

The Environment Agency’s Fisheries Improvement Programme (known as FIP) has seen £25,853 of rod licence income invested in Devon and Cornwall projects over the last 12 months. The projects were delivered in collaboration with several different partners, including local angling clubs, rivers trusts and landowners. A “forgotten generation” of working age veterans, who have approached SSAFA (the Armed Forces charity) for help, is surviving on an average annual household income of just £13,800. Exeter Family Friendly raise £2.5k

A team of executives from Exeter Family Friendly raised £2675 for Devon-based charity Rainbow Living after cycling 72 miles from Wellington to Salcombe.

Starting at 8:30am, Exeter Family’s Andy Chapman (CEO), Simon Philp, Paul Austin, Alan Ord and Adrian Hodgkinson crossed the finish line at 16:30pm, to raise money for the protection provider’s charity of the year.

Exeter legal firm sees income soar

An award winning South West law firm has seen its income grow by 12%.

Stephens Scown LLP, which is based in Exeter, has increased its income to £13.5 million – a growth of 12% – in the year ended 30 April 2014. This growth doubles the rise of 6% seen in the previous financial year and will enable the firm to pay out, on average, a firm-wide bonus in excess of 3% to all eligible employees.

Since 2011, the firm’s turnover has grown by 29%, representing strong organic, self-funded growth in Devon and Cornwall.

Local entrepreneur Emma Tellesy is celebrating a successful first year trading for her Exeter-based skincare, cosmetics and nutrition business, Arbonne.

Study links chemicals in our body with income

A new study published this week has found that the build-up of harmful chemicals in the body is affecting people of all social standings - not just those from economically deprived backgrounds as previously thought.

The research has been led by Dr Jessica Tyrrell from the University of Exeter Medical School’s European Centre for Environment & Human Health, in Truro, Cornwall.

Using data from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the team analysed possible links between a person’s socioeconomic status and the prevalence of chemicals in their body....
