Jump racing returns to Exeter Racecourse next Thursday (Oct 10) and it's all systems go on Haldon Hill where exciting new initiatives, an increase in prize money, and the promise of some of the country’s most exciting novice horses coming under starters orders in prospect.

Racegoers who attend either of Exeter Racecourse’s meetings on 10 and 22 October could become a racehorse owner, thanks to an exclusive partnership with leading trainer Jeremy Scott.

Victor Dartnall unveiled a strong team of horses, including plenty of exciting future prospects, for the forthcoming winter jump racing season at his annual owners' day on Sunday.

Dartnall endured a torrid time after the outbreak of equine herpes virus at his Barnstaple yard last October that resulted in the death of several horses. But wins from both Ambion Wood and Seebright in the spring plus several decent placed horses signalled that the yard is back on song, and about 35 horses will represent the trainer this autumn and winter.

Exeter Racecourse announces 25% rise in prize money

Exeter Racecourse has announced a 25% increase in its prize money for 2013. More than £200,000 has been added to the total prize money on offer, bringing the total to over £800,000, with an average per fixture of £50,000.

The course’s most valuable race day, which includes The sportingbet Haldon Gold Cup which takes place on Tuesday, 5th November, is now worth £117,000, up £12,000 on 2012, while a Listed Novice Hurdle on Sunday, February 10 is worth £20,000 - its previous value was £13,000.

A plethora of jump racing stars are set to line up in the re-routed The Levy Board Peterborough Chase, which takes place at Exeter on Thursday (Dec 20th).

David Bridgewater has no fears about the step back in trip for The Giant Bolster, saying: “He won very easily over 2m5f at Cheltenham when he won the Murphy Group Chase so I’m sure he’ll be fine. Frontline workers across Devon are being invited to enjoy a free day at Exeter Racecourse on Sunday 23 November as the course hosts its annual Devon Air Ambulance Raceday, one of the region’s strongest displays of community support for a local lifesaving charity.
