The Government-backed Help to Buy scheme has helped over 270,000 new home buyers since it was introduced in 2013. However, from 1st April this year, the scheme is changing. Emma Cotterill, regional sales and marketing director for Kier Living Western, explains what local buyers need to know.

Barratt West Regional director welcomes Help to Buy extension

Barratt Developments' new west regional director has welcomed the government's announcement of an extension to the Help to Buy Scheme , which helped more than 5000 households in the South West buy a new home in the year to March 2020.

The scheme enables people to buy a brand-new home with a 5% deposit on a property up to a value of £600,000 and a 5-year interest-free government loan for up to 20% allowing buyers to take out a 75% mortgage.

Five years of Help to Buy has helped 650 homebuyers in Exeter

Figures just released for the first full five years of Help to Buy in Exeter have revealed that almost 650 homebuyers have used the government scheme to buy their new home.

The figures show that 649 people in the city have taken advantage of the scheme since it was launched in April 2013.

First time buyers in Exeter welcome Stamp Duty scrapping

First time buyers in Exeter will likely be celebrating as the Chancellor has scrapped stamp duty taxes for first timers on properties up to the value of £300,000 in the Autumn Budget.

158 newly-built homes in Exeter and East Devon have been bought using equity loans from the government’s ‘Help to Buy’ scheme according to new figures released today. The 'Help to Buy' equity loan scheme, which was launched in April last year, enables people to buy a newly-built home with a deposit of at least 5% of the property price, while the government offers a loan of up to 20%.
