Welch up for the Welsh challenge

Damian Welch is expecting former club Scarlets to offer Exeter Chiefs a testing work-out in their opening pre-season fixture this Saturday (3pm).

The towering lock spent three years at the Parc Y Scarlets before heading to Sandy Park during the summer of 2012, where he has since established himself as a key figure within Rob Baxter’s first team plans.

With 88 appearances already to his name for the Devon club, the 34-year-old forward is hoping to kick-off the 2016/17 season on a high note by helping the Chiefs to see off the Welsh region.

The Chiefs endured their...

City v Sheffield Utd report

A BRAVE Exeter City just missed out on a draw with League 1 Sheffield United in their final pre-season friendly at St James Park before the big kick-off in two week’s time.

The Grecians named a strong-looking line-up for this one, one which looks very like that which may take to the field to begin the 2015/16 League 2 campaign against Yeovil Town.

Blades boss Nigel Adkins, who brought Reading to St James Park for a pre-season fixture one year ago, switched goalkeepers after handing in the teamsheets, with George Long, the former Motherwell loanee, replacing Mark Howard in...

Between them, they have committed to create over 121,500 Dementia Friends in shops and banks across the UK. Angie Newing, Regional Director for Alzheimer’s Society in the South West,...

The initiative recognises that most of the barriers that prevent women from breastfeeding can be removed by access to well-trained health professionals, good quality support in the community and a widespread understanding of the profound health benefits of breast milk....

Chiefs lose final pre-season outing

Exeter Chiefs lost their final pre-season outing as Glasgow’s attacking prowess came out on top at Sandy Park, writes Mark Stevens.

Welshman Tom James scored a brace of tries for the Chiefs and fly-half Gareth Steenson kicked the rest of the points, but two tries from Byron McGuigan and one each from Alex Dunbar and Mark Bennett saw the visitors come through to win.

Steenson opened the scoring with a penalty after just three minutes as the Chiefs started well, but opposite number Scott Wight levelled things up two minutes later as Dave Ewers gave away a penalty at a ruck....
